Biography
Stelios Aggeloudis, Mayor-Elect of Thessaloniki
I was born in Ano Polis, where I still live today. I am married to Vicky Tsomakou and we have two children, Elina and Konstantinos.
I studied Law and practiced law for many years. I served as a legal advisor at ERT3, while I was Special Secretary for Macedonia – Thrace Sports of the Ministry of Culture and General Secretary of Trade of the Ministry of Development. From these positions I connected my action with important projects:
The creation of numerous sports infrastructures, such as Posidonio and the unique in Europe sports and cultural center for People with Disabilities, KAPPA.
The legislative framework for e-commerce and the relocation of Farmer’s Market from the center of Thessaloniki to the place it is now located
I was for ten years the president of the Greek Handball Federation and I critically contributed to handball development and promotion,
Since 2001 I have had the honor of participating in the Hellenic Olympic Committee, whose executive vice-president I am at the present.
I founded and was the first president of the National Olympic Academy, while I had the great privilege of participating as an appointed advisor at the Athens Olympic Games.
I created the Olympic Museum, the first of its kind in the country, which belongs to the International Olympic Committee, introducing in this way Thessaloniki to the great international Olympic family.
In 2010 I assumed the duties of President and CEO of the Thessaloniki Port Authority. My tenure at the Port has been associated with two very important achievements: the opening up the Port to the city with the reconstruction of the first pier and the inclusion of the Port and Thessaloniki among cruise tourism destinations.
Upon completion of my service at the Port, I returned to my legal duties, as well as those at the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
On October 15 I was elected mayor of Thessaloniki and I am going to assume my new duties on January 12024 (till December 12 2029).
