Biography

Dr Byron Camilleri was re-appointed as Malta’s Minister for Home Affairs, Security, Reforms and Equality after the 2022 general elections. During the previous legislature, he was also responsible for Home Affairs and National Security after being sworn in as minister in 2020.

Dr Camilleri was the government’s whip for three years after successfully being to parliament in 2017. He was also a member of the Labour Party’s administration.

He has been actively involved in politics since 2010, when he was elected as the youngest mayor of Fgura, a major residential city in Malta.  He was re-appointed mayor in 2013, obtaining a record number of votes in the history of the Fgura local council and obtaining the highest percentage of votes amongst all candidates contesting the 2013 local elections.

Dr Camilleri is well known for his involvement in law enforcement, security and migration issues. As part of his role, he has been responsible for overseeing matters related to policing, public safety, immigration, and other related areas.

Dr Camilleri is a lawyer by profession. He was admitted to the bar in 2013.
