Biography
Apostolis Karabairis was born in 1982. He holds a BA in Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies from the University of Macedonia (2006). After he finished his field research in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he began working as a resident researcher for the Greek think tanks EKEM and ELIAMEP in Athens.
In 2012, he became one of the founding members of Thessaloniki Pride and currently serves as its Director. Apostolis is leading the preparations for EuroPride 2024.
In 2019, EuroPride was awarded to the city of Thessaloniki for 2020 but was postponed to 2024 due to the Covid19 pandemic. Apostolis is also a member of the steering board of Thessaloniki’s civil society organizations network thessΔίκτυο (Thessaloniki Network), while he promotes the idea of organizing a Balkan Pride. Apart from LGBTQI+ activism, he has worked with the pedagogical-artistic youth group “Raft in the city” for a 3-year project (2019-2022) on inclusive education.
He speaks fluent English.
